TMM Pre-Use Checklist (Trackless Mobile Machinery): Go, Go-But, No-Go
A pre-use check for trackless mobile machinery (LHDs, dump trucks, drill rigs, utility vehicles and the other TMMs on a mine) that the operator completes before moving the machine. A no-go defect stops the machine until it is repaired; a go-but defect lets it work while the defect is repaired within the time your code of practice sets.

- Check verified by the supervisor
How to use this checklist
- 1Do the check at the start of the shift, before the machine moves, and whenever you take over a machine.
- 2Work through the no-go items first. Any no-go defect: do not move the machine; report it and tag it out.
- 3Record go-but defects with the date they must be repaired by, as your code of practice sets.
- 4Photograph every defect and the items marked PHOTO.
- 5Sign the checklist, have your supervisor verify it, and keep completed checklists for at least three months.
A general guide. Add your manufacturer's checks and your site's own standards, and follow your site's procedures for reporting and isolating defective equipment. Regulation 8.10.24 of the Mine Health and Safety Act regulations requires the operator to inspect the brakes, lights and other safety features before moving a trackless mobile machine, and to complete a pre-use checklist at the start of each shift that states when the machine may or may not be moved. Brakes are tested routinely under 8.10.7, operators are licensed under 8.10.23 and carry the licence under 8.10.27, and collision prevention is required under 8.10.1 and 8.10.2. The guideline for the TMM code of practice (Notice 855 of 2015, Part C 8.10) sets the go, go-but and no-go conditions and keeping completed checklists for at least three months.

Paper finds the defect. Then what?
On paper, a ticked "Defect" box often stays a ticked box. In Inspecable the same checklist keeps going after it is signed:
- Run the checklist on an Android phone with no signal; it syncs when the crew is back in range.
- A failed item raises an issue with an owner and a due date.
- A corrective action cannot close without evidence and a signature.
- Every completed inspection produces a signed PDF with its photos.
Questions
What is a TMM pre-use checklist?
The check a trackless mobile machine operator must complete at the start of each shift before moving the machine, under regulation 8.10.24 of the MHSA regulations. It must state when the machine may or may not be moved, which is why it is split into no-go and go-but items.
What is the difference between go-but and no-go?
A no-go defect, such as faulty brakes, steering or collision prevention, means the machine may not be moved until it is repaired. A go-but defect, such as a damaged mirror, lets the machine work while the defect is repaired within the time your code of practice sets.
How long must TMM pre-use checklists be kept?
At least three months, under the guideline for the TMM mandatory code of practice (Notice 855 of 2015). Keep them with the machine history so that a repeat defect on the same machine shows up.
